Sports offers global, economic, social and cultural appeal. The rules of sports are clear, consistent, and the field/arena/court offer boundaries. Each sport ball is simple in form and unique in size. Every academic discipline can be taught through a sports-theme, in any school, in any country across the globe. Kids learn, retain, and apply knowledge when they are motivated, interested, have fun, and relate to what they are learning. Powerhitter® Classroom Programs blend education/youth development, sports-themed curriculum content, and a player, teammate, coach philosophy that is readily transferred into one's own teaching/life.
Powerhitter® offers a proven game plan, materials, academic and movement curriculum, teammate philosophy, and enrichment for all learners. No need to reinvent a game plan that's fun and gets results! Classroom coaches find a ready-make program. Just set up 36 Centers around the room or on display boards, cut up specific center cards, copy student reproducibles, read the teacher's guide and your are in the game. Teachers: adjust to "players" needs. (Use Math centers if you teach Math/ use all centers if you teach all subjects. Some centers require weekly or daily completion.

For over 30 years, Dr. Veltri, a career educator, has offered an assist to teachers, coaches, administrators, principals, universities, teams, foundations, non-profits, and media who believe in kids and are passionate about sports. As a sports-educational consultant, Dr Veltri was asked, "How do we reach the kids?' Her immediate reply, "You reach the kids through their teachers." She was hired by Major League Baseball to present seminars for teachers in American and National League Stadiums and then created curriculum materials (enough for entire classes), that were mailed to every teacher who signed in on the attendance roster.
Teachers were given CEU's (continuing education units). Sponsors believed in this education outreach and supported the program (BIC, RYDER, ADVANTA, PEMCO, ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS among others). Dr. Veltri developed this program during her initial year (twelve in total) teaching at a Connecticut boys' school. Powerhitter® Educator Seminars supported rookie and veteran teachers at four universities, across 7 MLB teams, school districts in metro Dallas, Phoenix, Seattle, Scarsdale, Port Chester (NY), Stamford (CT), Salt River and Casa Blanca Indian Communities.
Dr. Veltri earned her doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction/Education Policy from Arizona State University who offered Powerhitter® Classroom as a 3-6 credit graduate level course, as did Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY.
As a teacher educator, researcher, and tenured professor, Dr Veltri supported rookie TFA teachers who benefited from the centers-based approach to teaching diverse student populations, grades 3-8 and Special Education 4-8.
The program's unique baseball-themed content appeals to students across every social class - as does the game of baseball. Powerhitter® blends educational /coaching best practice, sports-themed curriculum, project based learning, and peer collaboration with real life learning opportunities and assessment strategies, that appeal to teachers and students.
As Dr. David Berliner, Dean Emeritus, Mary Lou Fulton College of Education, and Regents' Professor (Emeritus) noted, 'Just because it's fun, doesn't mean it's not intellectually rich."
